Required for transcriptional silencing in the outer repeat (otr) centromeric repeats and the Tf2 long terminal repeat retrotransposons. May play an indirect role in the regulation of cdc2 and/or wee1 at the G2/M stage of mitosis; Belongs to the WD repeat HIR1 family.
